Atherosclerosis
Atherosclerosis is a disease where there is a clogging in the artery due to plaque build-up. The artery is a blood vessel which is a pathway for oxygenated blood and other nutrients to get to our body. When it gets clogged up with plaque, there can be many problems associated with the heart and the body. The heart would be at a high risk for having a heart attack or a stroke. This would occur when blood cannot surpass the plaque build-up in the artery. Also, the body will be deprived of the nutrients and oxygen that it needs, since the blood flow is disrupted in the blood vessel. The plaque build-up in the artery can consist of things like fat, cholesterol, and calcium; and other substances in the bloodstream as well. LDL or Low Density Lipoprotein can overtime stick to the artery’s wall also creating a clogging. Overtime, the plaque would harden, leading to clogging and the hardening of arteries which causes the arteries to also become narrow, disrupting blood flow as a whole.
